Today is National Sausage Pizza Day.
Aah, that answers the "what to make for dinner" question. :)

1869 - Thomas Edison filed for a patent on his first invention. The electric machine was used for counting votes for the U.S. Congress, however the Congress did not buy it.
Edison learned a hard lesson that day...Congressmen are not all that interested in accurate counts....unless their party has lost. He invented the phonograph and fared much better. Congressmen will pay money to hear themselves speaking.

Speaking of elections...10-11-1932: In New York, the first telecast of a political campaign was aired.
...And it just kept going downhill from there. :)

1983 - The last hand-cranked telephones in the U.S. went out of service. The 440 telephone customers of Bryant Pond, ME, were switched to direct-dial service.

On this date in 1759, Parson Mason Weems was born.
He was the one who fabricated uh, "recorded for history" the story about George Washington cutting down his father's cherry tree.
You know,...that one that is supposed to encourage school children to never tell a lie.

In 1727 the Coronation Anthem No. 4, by Handel, was first performed in Westminster Abbey

In 1811 The Juliana, the first steam-powered ferryboat, was put into operation by the inventor John Stevens. The ferry went between New York City, NY, and Hoboken, NJ
I think we will celebrate by making our own ferryboat...Like this one.

And, just a reminder: October is "Go Nuts Over Texas Peanuts" month.
You can find out more on the web page of the Texas Peanut Board, the ones who are "Feeding Texans One Nut At A Time" according to their motto.
